About This Site
This blog is a chronicle of my experiences with my acl surgery and subsequent rehabilitation. I started writing the entries as of the day before my surgery continuing daily for the first few weeks, and then as often as interesting milestones in my recovery take place. The calendar and recent post list on the right and side of the site show the most recent entries.
This site is meant to be an interactive one. To that end, feel free to comment on any of the posts. Better yet, create an account in our forums. A place where people considering having ACL surgery can find information and ask questions. It is also a place where those having gone through the process can offer their support and share their own experiences. Finally it is a place where those caring individuals that are helping us through our rehabilitation can vent, find support, and have a few laughs.
Hopefully you will find the information on this site both entertaining and educational.

Hello,
Firstly I would like to thank you for taking the time to produce this diary, It is very reassuring and informative to people such as myself who are awaiting the operation. I was wondering if you could give me some information on getting around post-op. I am having my op done 30th August 2007 in London. I am startig a new job on the 3rd of September!! This is obviously not ideal. I have arranged for taxi’s to and from buildings and special arrangements have been made. I understand that every paient is different but am I being unrealistic to think I can walk after 3 days?
Hope you are recovering quickly.
Regards
James Robson
James,
Like you said, every situation is different. However, the first couple of weeks, just standing upright for more than a few minutes was pretty painful because of all of the swelling. Moving around on crutches was tolerable for short distances (from the door to the van, from the bed to the bathroom, etc…)
I would personally be wary of starting a new job 3 days after surgery, however a lot will depend upon your personal level of pain tolerance, the effectiveness of your medication, and the nature of your job.
James, you still out there? It’s one more day till your surgery, good luck!
I had my surgery 6 days ago and was up on crutches the same night. I had little post-op bleeding or swelling and have been walking at about 45-50% since. I think age (you don’t mention yours) can definitely play a role. I’m 26. Doc says crutches for 3 weeks, but I hope to be traveling without them in another week. I am wearing a leg brace when out, which paces me and alerts others to look out for my knee in public transport.
Lee, you don’t mention your age either. Also, you haven’t updated for a month. I want to know what you’ve been doing in the meanwhile! Do you have a goal (besides range of motion) you’re trying to reach? Is there a sport you’re getting back on your feet for?
